Tall activity centers encourage older infants to stand. At Apple Hill Academy, we sometimes use these activities to encourage our daycare center children to stand tall. This can be a “tall order” for infants, as it helps in the physical development process.

Tall is a word that is not only used to describe height, but also as a figure of speech, to describe things that are either large in size, or large in amount.  According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the idiom “tall order” is slang, originating in the U.S., and means “something expected to be hard to achieve or fulfil.” The earliest example they cite is by Franklin Adams, in 1893.

Big or tall, literally or figuratively, helping children grow at our preschool is something we love to do, so that they will learn to “stand on their own two feet” at the right time!
